Floating Ramen Shop Model

This is a model I made from a concept art drawing I found on Pinterest. The original artwork is below, along with my final model and some close up details.

My finished 3D model.

As an exercise, I wanted to take a 2D piece of art I found randomly online and turn it into a 3D model. My hope was to get a better feel for space both in and around an object that was originally flat, and try to get it as close to the original piece as possible without causing it to lose the general look, feel, and whimsy of the original artwork.

As such, I of course started with the most basic shapes, including the decks, the rocks, the general shape of the restaurant, and the buoy, before adding in all the modeled details. It was quite a fun exercise, and I think I'm going to do more work like this in the future. In areas that are not easily visible or completely covered in the 2D image, I had to improvise and come up with my own ideas of what would probably go there for a ramen shop. I wanted someone to be able to view it from all sides and still think it is cohesive.

I'm very happy with the result I achieved!

The final model of the ramen shop. This is what I ended up with when I finished.

BuoyCloseUp.jpg

A close up of the buoy. I looked at reference images of real buoys to add in details I couldn't see in the artwork.

ChainCloseUp.jpg

A close up of the chain line holding the buoy to the seafloor. I used a duplication process to get a nice chain link look.

BowlSkinkCloseUp.jpg

The area underneath the roof awning by the outdoor seating. I added in several little details like bottles, notes, and more.

CounterBehindCloseUp.jpg

A pulled back look of the area under the awning, showing the full area.

StairsCloseUp.jpg

The little mini dock, complete with life preservers and a moor rope. I paid extra close attention to the rope so I could get something aesthetic but also realistic within the work.
